Team:
I started playing this game thinking that a balanced approach would be the best. I've always played games that way for the most part. I didn't do a lot of research, so I just played the way I thought would work best.
I was wrong. Defense sucks.
Here's why:
1. You can't stop getting raided. You can only hope to take advantage of what the game offers you in return for being raided. If someone wants to raid your base, they can. And there's nothing you can do to stop it. It took me six weeks of playing this game, and almost quitting because I thought I must be doing something wrong, before I figured this out. If you can't stop it, you can benefit from it by collecting Intel and diamonds (more on that in a minute).
2. It makes your offense weaker. In order to be an effective offensive player, you need to focus on Landing Craft, your Gunboat, and your armory. You should always have something upgrading in your armory, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Pick two (at most 3) troop combinations and focus on those. Heavies and Zookas are the most versitile, so I think everyone should have that as one. After that it's up to you.
3. I'm not saying completely ignore defense. You should have high enough level defense that you get at least one intel when you're raided. If you are getting intel, then you're probably good enough on defense.
4. Focus on upgrading one LC at a time to take advantage of the extra troops as soon as possible. For instance, if you're using hookas, the heavies take up four spots. So you want to upgrade a single LC to the point that it can hold one extra troop. I understand that might not always be possible depending on the amount of resources you have at the time, but if you have enough, always upgrade the LC that requires the most resources and moves you closer to having one more troop on the landing craft.
5. It's just not as much fun. Sure, it's cool to not have your resources taken from you. But is it really fun to sit back and farm resources? With a strong defense and a weak offense, you're basically just sitting around waiting for resources to pile up. Trust me, it's much more fun to be the aggressor, attacking and defeating other players (especially higher level players) than it is to sit and wait. Just trust me on this, I'm speaking from experience.
